BS4568 galvanized steel pipe boasts a pit-free surface and high service life

Date:2025-11-05
BS4568 galvanized steel pipe, with its superior surface quality and durability, has become a preferred material in the construction, electrical, and agricultural fields. One of its core advantages is its pit-free surface, a characteristic stemming from advanced hot-dip galvanizing technology and strict quality control. During the galvanizing process, the steel pipe undergoes multiple pretreatment steps, including pickling, cleaning, and fluxing, ensuring the surface is free of impurities such as iron oxide scale and oil stains, thus preventing zinc dross from adhering and forming pits. Simultaneously, the use of solid-state high-frequency welding technology results in internal weld seams smaller than 0.1mm, or even zero weld seams, with smooth and even welds, further reducing surface defects.

The significantly improved service efficiency of BS4568 galvanized steel pipe is attributed to its excellent mechanical properties and convenient installation characteristics. The standard steel pipe wall thickness is typically 1.6-2.0mm, compared to the 2.5-3.5mm of traditional SC steel pipes. This results in a longer length per unit weight (e.g., φ20 steel pipe can reach 1495 meters per ton, while SC20 steel pipe is only 625 meters), significantly reducing transportation and installation costs. Furthermore, galvanized steel pipes undergo finishing processes such as end trimming, threading, oiling, and capping before leaving the factory, resulting in a smooth, burr-free inner wall that avoids damage to electrical insulation and facilitates on-site construction, reducing manual labor time.

Long service life is another major highlight of BS4568 galvanized steel pipes. The zinc coating thickness on both the inner and outer surfaces is ≥45μm, meeting heavy-duty corrosion protection requirements. This effectively isolates the galvanized steel pipe from the external environment, slowing down corrosion. In harsh environments such as humid or acidic/alkaline conditions, the zinc layer preferentially corrodes to form a dense oxide film, protecting the substrate from corrosion. For example, in high-humidity environments such as coastal areas or agricultural greenhouses, the service life of BS4568 galvanized steel pipes can reach over 10 years, far exceeding that of ordinary steel pipes. Furthermore, the environmental friendliness of galvanized steel pipes ensures their long-term use. No harmful substances are emitted during the production process, and they can be recycled and reused after disposal, aligning with green building principles.

BS4568 galvanized steel pipes, with their smooth surface, high efficiency, and long lifespan, have become an ideal choice for demanding engineering projects, widely used in electrical wiring, agricultural greenhouses, and building structures.
