the european standard en 10219-1:2006 has the status of a british standard. it consists of the following parts under the general title ‘cold formed welded structural hollow sections of non-alloy and fine grain steels:

− part 1: technical delivery conditions

− part 2: tolerances, dimensions, and sectional properties

it forms part of a series of standards on hollow sections together with en 10210-1 and 2, which are also under revision.

the scope en 10219 specification

this part of this european standard en 10219 specifies the technical delivery conditions for cold-formed welded structural hollow sections of circular, square or rectangular forms and applies to structural hollow sections formed cold without subsequent heat treatment.

the classified steels

the steels are classified in en 10219 as follows similarly to the classification provided in the en 10210 standard:

1. non-alloy steels

2. fine-grain steels

for non-alloy steel structural hollow sections the designation shall consist of :

– the number of this european standard (en 10219 specification);

– (s) the capital letter s for structural steel;

– the indication of the minimum specified yield strength for thickness ≤16mm expressed in n/mm2;

– (jr) the capital letters jr for the qualities with specified impact properties at room temperature; or

– (j) the capital letter j and a number 0 or 2 for the qualities with specified impact properties at 0℃ and -20℃ respectively;

– (h) the capital letter h to indicate hollow sections.

for fine grain steel structural hollow sections the steel designation consists of:

– the number of this european standard (en 10219 specification);

– (s) the capital letter s for structural steel;

– the indication of the minimum specified yield strength for thicknesses ≤ 16 mm expressed in n/mm2;

– (n) the capital letter n to indicate normalized or normalized rolled feedstock material or

– (m) the capital letter m to indicate thermomechanically rolled feed-stock material;

– (l) the capital letter l for the qualities with specified impact properties at -50 °c;

– (h) the capital letter h to indicate hollow sections.

en 10219 pipe four quality groups have been established:

n resilience testing at the temperature of –20 °c

nl resilience testing at the temperature of –50 ° c

m resilience testing at the temperature of –20 ° c

ml resilience testing at the temperature of –50 °c
